New Look 6071 as a Top

Aloha Everyone,

You might remember that I made this pattern a while back and used an ITY knit.  You can see it here.  This time I decided to make NL6071 into a top.  I used a one yard cut of periwinkle colored cotton/lycra from my stash.  While I love the color, the fabric was not very cooperative, particularly with the way the pattern has you finish the neckline and armholes.  Yikes!  I tore out the back of the neck 3 times.  I ended up finishing the armholes by binding them with self-fabric instead of sewing on facing, folding it to the inside, then stitching it down.  The problem was the cotton/lycra was too heavy and too stiff for this kind of treatment and kept rolling to the outside once it was finished.  I think the only thing that kept me from tossing this into the rubbish after ripping out the back neckline for the third time was the color.  Now that it is finished, it will be a great little spring top.  On to the pictures!

In other sewing news, I took advantage of an online Vogue pattern's sale and recently picked up a couple of new New Look patterns.  I already have more patterns than I could ever need, but there is something about perusing through patterns to get the creative juices flowing.  Hopefully I'll come up with a fabric/pattern match soon!

Your top is so neat I would never have imagined any difficulties, if you hadn't shared them! Well done on persisting, I expect you will wear this frequently in warm weather.

That is a great top. I made the dress from that pattern and it's my favorite dress ever.

I know what you mean about the patterns. I don't need any more, but then I see something that pops out at me and I have to have it!

I love this top Shannon! I have this pattern and have not made it yet. I'm fearful it will be too low in the front for me and I won't be able too figure out how to raise it! I guess I was waiting for someone similar to my figure to make it and figure it out for me! (Shame, shame!). I guess I have to "bite the bullet" and do it myself! Both yours are so cute, you've convinced me!
